[Imagine a long intro about why this list is fun — excuse the bad punctuation – but yeah, you’re right, I should take longer to get into my wonderful list. Maybe not.]
Let’s just shall, shall we? :-)
Red Table Talk (Facebook Watch, talk show)
When Jada Pinkett Smith announced she was creating, producing, hosting, whatever the heck else that lady does, a Red Table Talk *series*??? YEEESSS, JADA, FINALLY! For years I enjoyed her insightful Facebook posts and commentary. I also saw the first Red Table Talk with her gorgeous daughter Willow and beautiful mother Adrienne, so I was very pleased to see them (and guests) back at the table for the series.
The free flow of the show’s conversations and structure is satisfying and makes me feel like they are really just talking at a red table. So far, some of the topics have been: loss, motherhood, body image, sisterhood/friendship, being different, and growing up in the famous Smith family.
What they say in their bio on Facebook: Jada Pinkett Smith, her daughter Willow, and mother Adrienne – three generations of women open their home for a series of candid conversations with family and friends. Follow Red Table Talk for new episodes, only on Facebook Watch.
Do you have conversations like these with the people closest to you?
The Graham Norton Show (talk show)
Graham Norton’s sarcasm, epic one-liners and guests are on point. My top favourite recurring guests are James McAvoy and Samuel L. Jackson.
13 Reasons Why (Netflix, drama series)
If the most public opinions are the majority, then I disagree with most. For me, the first season was such a drag, especially the first couple episodes. After a few episodes, it got less boring but yeah. Season 2, though… It was sooo much better! The development of characters, storylines, (anti)climax, variety of issues, etc. They did such a wonderful job. Many thought it was too “explicit” but as a person who loves documentaries, talk shows, variety programs, and whatnot, I thought season 2 was *the* perfect mix of showing reality/real people in a fictional series.
What am I looking forward to if season 3 happens? Let me tell ya:
Jessica… That’s all I’ve got to say.
The girl that took the pictures. Really? I understand but ugh FRUSTRATION.
Justin, boy… That’s it with a sigh on the side.
Bryce and… Bryce Jr? Anyway, Bryce is a curseword still. I would be interested in knowing more about his seemingly something-not-so-nice father and his (the father’s) relationship with Mama Curseword.
Clay hopefully will turn that frown upside down and get it together in the next portion of his life.
Tyler, oh my oh my. I feel so bad for the kid. He had me clutching non-existent pearls, too.
What’s up with Marcus? We have to know!!!
That principal is inept. And how unfortunate is it that the only adult that was actually TRYING gets FIRED?! Some schools, man. ((He did break some rules but if that’s the only misconduct within that school system you want to bring up… major side-eye))
Seven Seconds (Netflix, crime drama series)
That downloaded first episode was waiting there for so many months. It happens. Phone with lots of space, you know how that goes… But I finally watched it and the rest of the season followed soon after. The series is filled with moments of annoyance, surprise, realisation, heartache, disbelief, smiles, laughter, frustration, shock, discontent, and any other emotion I missed. (Beyoncé voice) It’s just emotions taking me over nanananana lost in the song…
The Amazing World of Gumball (Cartoon Network, animated series)
Is the Cartoon Network less or more a childrens channel than the Disney Channel? Whatever. My little brother watches this and frequently asks to look when something funny happens. Like most adults, I assume I won’t be too impressed. Like most adult, I need to humble myself in this regard. It *is* funny!
